Since falling in love with economics at Uni, I have taught economics at high school and University level to help students grasp the core concepts in macro and micro economics.
To make sense of such big concepts, I work hard to make economics personally related for the student. I talk about commonly purchased items and how their own purchasing habits, and those of their household has an economic impact. This assists with not only comprehension, but also recall - so that students are able to make sense of economics using their own experiences.
Whether at high school or University level, I am constantly assisting students to improve, clarify and strengthen their English analysis, comprehension and written communication.
With an emphasis on novel and film analysis, including a firm understanding of language and stylistic features, my English lessons help to break down tasks into bite-sized chunks. We start with dissecting the question and planning our response structure. We then move onto the key aspects of the text that we will be analysing/comparing/contrasting etc and build a strong argument, with reference to examples from the text.
Students find this step by step approach refreshing and understandable - avoiding overwhelm, all-nighters and essay panic.
Focusing on Maths curriculum in Years 7-10, we work on breaking down new maths rules and formulas to make sense of maths problems in front of them.
Maths can be a big source of anxiety, particularly for middle schoolers - given the unexpected jump between primary and high school. I help to smooth this transition and give them the confidence that they absolutely can tackle each new maths topic, one step at a time. We fill holes in foundational understanding and introduce new aspects slowly and through a structured process, taking out the stress and introducing the curiosity.
Having tutored Business Studies at both high school and University level, I have the skills and experience to deliver a range of business concepts. I also draw on my own Bachelor degree as well as professional business experience to bring concepts to life and assist with understanding and recall.
For high school students in particular, business studies can be challenging, largely due to limited life and working experience. Despite being a fantastic foundation for students seeking a career in business post-school, concepts need to be relatable and digestible to be useful to younger students. This can also be the case for tertiary students majoring in another area of specialisation and here, a different approach is invaluable.
With tertiary qualifications and more than 5 years marketing experience, I am ideally positioned to provide a well-rounded view of marketing for the modern world.
I have experience teaching conventional and foundational marketing concepts, as well as more innovative schools of modern marketing. I have taught students how to confidently right a marketing plan, undertake competitor analysis or understand the required financial data that they need to make the right marketing decisions.
Marketing is a wonderful stepping stone, applicable to so many career paths - which is why I like to help students see all sides of marketing, well beyond boring sales stats or glitzy social media successes.
