I have a Bachelor in Education and have taught English and EAL to secondary school aged students for 27 years.
I have become highly skilled in my instructional planning due to my considerable experience teaching EAL in both secondary school and new arrival settings. This is partly due to my solid understanding of current approaches and theories to second language learning and teaching, on which I draw when planning for my EAL lessons. This has included Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Stucture of Observed Learning Outcomes taxonomy (SOLO). I develop positive and productive relationships because of my effective interpersonal skills. I have a natural ability to develop constructive, supportive and nurturing relationships with students regardless of cultural background, age and English level. This applies to students both in and outside of the class.

I hold a Bachelor of Education with an EAL major from the University of Melbourne which is an approved EAL qualification recognised by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Services. Over the years, I have used this qualification and on - going professional development to teach EAL students in the mainstream context as well as newly arrived migrants and refugees in New Arrival Settings. My effective teaching and interpersonal skills and my ability to improve learning outcomes, to make a positive difference for students and support them in their learning, particularly English and English as an additional Language is paramount.
