In the past two years, I have gained extensive experience as a mathematics tutor and mentor, having been both the tutor and the student.
I have worked with students from the ages of 5-17 and have always focused on the notion of having a student understand, rather than simply “know” their work. My experience stems from working both as a private tutor and as a commercial tutor, and in both roles my ability to communicate ideas helped me to perform exceptionally.
Despite having never formally taught Engineering Studies, my outstanding performance in the subject and willingness to help my peers understand concepts meant that in the classroom I was constantly touching up on my communication skills and content knowledge within the area. In this sense, countless hours have been spent refining these skills.
Further, in the next five years I will be studying a Civil Engineering degree at the University of Sydney as a Dalyell Scholar, allowing me to further hone in on the area.
