In my more than 5 years of tutoring, I have worked with students of all ages, from young children to senior citizens. While all of my teaching experiences have been rewarding, I most enjoy teaching at the university level and loved to see my calculus students achieve their goals. I have been tutoring students from grade Six up to university level in all mathematical related subjects. Throughout my career of teaching I have developed simplified methods to mathematical numerical based problems, and have seen successful result in my students.
I see my role as a teacher as being a facilitator for the students' learning, rather than as a dispenser of knowledge. At all levels, students must be actively engaged in the learning process in order to master and come to own the material. To this end, I try to structure an environment so that students can work on problems and ask questions freely. I like to provide activities that lead students to discover solutions on their own, rather than telling them how to solve particular problems. I then ask them to extend their thinking by explaining not just how, but why, their solution works. The goal with these extensions is to build both communication and analysis skills, which I feel is important in all mathematics classes. To assess these skills, I make written explanations a required part of homework assignments.
Students come in with a range of mathematical backgrounds, however students can have some level of math anxiety. To help address that anxiety, I seat the students in groups of four and keep them in the same groups for four weeks at a time. Working in groups helps my students to develop their abilities to work together with a variety of other people, share strengths and weaknesses, practice skills they will need as teachers, and deepen their understanding of concepts through collaboration.
Algebra is critically important because it is often viewed as a gatekeeper to higher-level mathematics and it is a required course for almost every post-secondary school program. Using my Algebra background I have achieved high-distinction in all of my mathematical units. If you struggle with Algebra, then sign up for a session so I can share my knowledge with you.
I have been teaching university level calculus for more than two years. Two hours is all i need to convince you that Calculus is a fun and easy subject.
Geometry is a diverse field of mathematics that can take some time for students to understand. Because of this, I provide geometry in a way that’s easy for students to revise and learn practical skills from. My online geometry teaching methods are designed to give students a full understanding of the fundamentals of geometry and help put these skills to use on real math problems.
