Hi! Originally I completed a major in Economic History and subsequently taught Modern History and Extension Modern History. I taught a globally diverse range because of interest, current issues and qualifications. This involved not only a firm grasp of 19th century background to major events such as the world wars but a fascination for our current post colonial world, particularly Asia. I wrote the inaugural Excell HSC Study Guide chapter on Vietnam/ Australia and the USA.
Engrossed in English 7-12 in all courses with the exception of HSC English. English outweighs Modern History due to its mandatory presence throughout secondary yet ranges from careers oriented to the esoteric engagement with literature, particularly poetry. As such ,with the exception of HSC extension ,I’ve engaged students starting with an appointment in Special Education, career related English in TAFE and the onerous but liberating completion of online Distance Education.
Introduced History Extension in new school. This involved two focal arms with extensive University contact: China in the 19th / 20 th centuries and Cuba, predominantly in the 20th century.
Legal Studies teaching centred around the NSW’s Law Society’s Mock Trial Competition. This is conducted in court houses with practising solicitors acting as support and ‘judge’.
The course was delivered as a remote Distance Education subject through the Dubbo/ Orara system that involves students from Victoria to PNG.
